Enjoy more than Sri Lanka hotels can ever offer
By renting our holiday home you will find yourself in a stunning location, with access to great surf and total tranquillity beside an idyllic lagoon. To the east of the villa, sandy beaches stretch for 120 kilometres down the coast from Batticaloa. With shallow waters sheltered by coral reefs, beaches to the north like Kalkudah or Passekudah offer ideal bathing conditions, but there are also beaches where the waves roll in, providing opportunities to surf. So pack a wet suit and hire a board, and experience south Asia's finest surfing conditions, basing yourself in a beautiful holiday villa. Nearer to the villa, beaches at Navalady and Kallady are idyllic spots for sunbathing and picnics. Closer to home, you will find the Batticaloa Lagoon, which is only 300m from the back door of the house. 50 kilometres long, the lagoon is a superb place to enjoy swimming or water sports like wind-surfing. Rent out kayaks, swan boats or paddle boats and explore the shoreline, or take motor boat tours across to Batticaloa city. Local fishermen will also prepare Sri Lankan delicacies using the harvest of the lagoon, and it is easy to arrange for food to be delivered to the villa. Alternatively, why not head out onto the lagoon and try to catch your own dinner with expert assistance? There is nothing like grilling a freshly caught fish that you have landed on our sumptuous open fireplace.
One added bonus is that, between April and September, you may even catch the sound of the lagoon's famous "singing fish", a unique feature of the area's marine life. Listen out for the characteristic "guitar twang" sound of the lagoon, for an experience that is unique to holidays to Sri Lanka. With access to coastal beaches, the pounding surf of the island's south-eastern corner and the peaceful waters of the lagoon, out holiday home provides a chance to enjoy the ultimate tropical holiday. Where else could you fall out of bed and take a dip in a warm water lagoon, before packing up a towel and sunbathing next to the Indian Ocean? This is something that no hotels in Sri Lanka can match.
See everything on the map of Sri Lanka during your trip
Renting in Batticaloa gives visitors every opportunity to visit other locations in Sri Lanka. Looking at the road map of Sri Lanka, Batticaloa will be found on the eastern coast, around two thirds of the way down from the Jaffna peninsular, just to the south of the port of Trincomalee. Although Batticaloa does have an airport, flights only arrive from Colombo, so visitors will probably have to transit via the nation's capital on their way, unless they arrive from the north via Jaffna, or by sea. When you get to the villa, the city of Batticaloa is an attraction in itself, offering historical sights like the stunning Dutch Fort, with its array of ancient cannons. It is also a famous Hindu centre, and visitors will not want to miss out on the Maamangam Festival, which is held during July. There is a well respected scuba diving school in town as well, where visitors can swim around the wreck of HMS Hermes, a British warship sunk during World War Two. And the coastline around Navalady and Kallady will always offer plenty of deserted beachfront, which couples and families will adore. Away from Batticaloa, the charming historical city of Kandy is a short drive inland from the holiday home as well, with its collection of monasteries and tea museum. To the south, you can head to the Yala National Park, where visitors can encounter elephants and leopards in their natural habitat. For surfing fans in particular, the southern part of Sri Lanka maps offers the delights of Arugam Bay, a world-famous beach and resort known for its lively waves.
North of Batticaloa on Sri Lanka maps, the road heads to Trincomalee, one of Sri Lanka's major port cities. Trincomalee has plenty to offer, including whale watching tours, the holy site of Koneswaram Kovil and the colonial Fort Frederick. Grabbing the road map of Sri Lanka again, you can even drive to the capital Colombo or the charming town of Galle, where you could catch a Test Match if a touring side is in the area. Whether history is your passion, or you love nature, renting in Batticaloa will be the ideal way to experience Sri Lanka holidays. With Hindu festivals, dazzling food, the pleasures of the lagoon, and history around every corner, this is a charming and still underrated part of Sri Lanka, so take a map of Sri Lanka and explore at your own pace, by renting our lovely holiday home.
